“An England fan almost died in Marseille. It could be worse next summer. If the circumstances are right someone could get killed.”
The leader of Zenit St Petersburg’s Landscrona mob, said: “You think it was bad in France – wait until Russia. This is our home fixture.”
In a worrying trend about wider Russian society they issued a warning to black and gay fans who were thinking of visiting the country for the World Cup.
Mavryn said: “It is not usual here. Many Russian people are uneducated about these sort of things. Any gay and black England fans must be careful when they visit here next year – there is no doubt about that.
A Russian politician recently called for fighting between fans to be legalised
He boasted, to the Mirror newspaper, about stealing an England flag and putting it on show in his local bar before it got removed by “the Federal Security Service, the modern KGB”.
The thug added: “In Marseille the Russian firms all came together. We caught the hooliganism ‘disease’ from you, the English, but it has evolved. We are fit, we are strong – one Russian can take on 12 or 13 Englishmen.
“In the 80s and 90s Russians were like the English – drunk before battles – but not any more. If someone in our firm is drunk they are left behind.
“If England come here it would great for the fighting but I don’t want my home city destroyed. They drink too much and leave the place in a real mess.”
The scenes in France shocked the world as it had been hoped such violence was a thing of the past
The gang is not confined to the uneducated, as the hooligan leader was only too happy to point out.
He said: “Many have very good jobs. We have a policeman, and a lawyer for example.
“20 years ago Russia v England would have been a fair fight – 50-50. Not any more.”
