Could Microsoft be about to spring a major surprise with its next release?
Anticipation is continuing to build for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.
Microsoft's next major release is set to be released later this year, with the company reportedly hard at work on the new device now.
The last generation device, the Surface Pro 4, was launched back in October 2015, meaning it is ripe for an upgrade, especially if Microsoft is keen to show off the power of its Windows 10 software.
And although the company is yet to reveal any concrete details on the Surface Pro 5, rumours and speculation are already beginning concerning what the device will look like.

Windows 10 could soon be coming to smart home products
Now, a new report has suggested that the Surface Pro 5 could be one of the most powerful computing devices ever released thanks to some superfast hardware.
Speculation had been rife that the Surface Pro 5 would come packing one of Intel’s flagship 7th generation Kaby Lake chip.
Microsoft and Intel have had a long working relationship, with previous Surface Pro devices packing the latter’s Core i3, i5 and i7 chips.
Using Intel’s latest chips would hopefully solve one of the biggest issues with past Surface Pro devices, which had come in for some serious criticism in terms of their battery life.
However it now seems that there may be a new challenger on the horizon.
AMD's new chip has been very well received so far
A report from PC Advisor has claimed that the Surface Pro 5 will come with one option that won’t be sporting an Intel chip at all.
Instead, Microsoft has apparently turned to its great rival AMD to power a new version of the device.
AMD recently revealed its latest Ryzen 7 chip, the most advanced hardware it has ever launched, and now it looks like it could soon be inside the new Surface Pro 5.
The source of the rumour is perhaps quite surprising, coming from the trailer for the new sci-fi blockbuster Alien:Covenant.
In it, several scientists are shown using a device that bears incredible similarities to the Surface Pro, with an almost-identical design and build.
However eagle-eyed tech fans have spotted that the movie itself comes with a sponsorship deal with AMD, whose logo appears during the trailer.
Is this our first official look at the Microsoft Surface Pro 5?
Expected to be the most powerful Surface Pro device to date, the Surface Pro 5 is currently shrouded in mystery, with Microsoft not even confirming the existence of it so far.
However a report last month claimed that Microsoft had accidentally leaked the product on its French website.
An image of a new device was posted online, showing what was undoubtedly a Surface Pro device, sharing similarities with past releases in terms of its build and design.
Reports have claimed that the Surface Pro 5 will upgrade the screen seen on previous devices, allowing for 4K UltraHD resolution, meaning you can watch videos and play games in greater detail.
The device will most likely keep the 12.3in size seen it is predecessor in order to be portable, with a lightweight aluminium body protecting what's inside.
We're also expecting around 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM, as well as a smarter version of the Surface Pen stylus which should feature wireless charging.
As for release date, we’re expecting Microsoft to keep to its usual October launch cycle, as it has done with previous Surface devices.
However with the next generation of Windows 10 software set to be launched in April, the company could yet spring a surprise and reveal the Surface Pro 5 then – we’ll just have to wait and see.
