A British tourist has drowned on the holiday island of Menorca
Liam Heaney, 58, was with his wife and another British couple at an open air restaurant at Es Castell, near the island capital of Mahon, on the south-eastern coast, on Tuesday lunchtime.
He apparently said he was hot and wanted to cool-off.
He then dived into the sea from the harbour quay.
Staff at the restaurant told him that swimming was forbidden, it was reported.
But he apparently did not understand or ignored the warning.
He was spotted half an hour later, floating face down in the water, by a member of a family owning another restaurant along the wharf.
The man dived in but found the Briton lifeless.
Another man joined him and they got Mr. Heaney ashore, but attempts to revive him failed.
