The 54-year-old, whose television career has spanned several decades, spoke about the blunder which left her fighting the urge to laugh mid-broadcast.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk at the National Television Awards last night, Carol confessed her biggest TV blunder: “It’s quite a famous one when my necklace fell off and I wanted to laugh.”
The Scottish star continued: “That’s the kind of thing - in real life if your necklace fell off and it’s down your cleavage, you don’t care less. But when you’re on television it’s just the funniest thing ever, so that was a good live gaffe.”
She added: “The other one is all of us end up saying fog and frost and it always comes out ‘frog’. It always comes out, I don’t know what it is!”
Carol also spoke about the gaffe she prayed would never happen: “Swearing, I hate to swear on telly or a wardrobe malfunction like Judy Finnigan had, bless her.
“She was unaware of it. I would just die from embarrassment if that happened, so that kind of thing.”
Former This Morning host Judy, 68, was left red-faced at the National Television Awards back in 2001 after her dress dropped down to her waist to reveal her white lacy bra.
Carol was the glitzy award ceremony in London last night after BBC Breakfast was nominated in the Live Magazine Show category.

She reflected on the departure of veteran host Bill Turnbull from BBC Breakfast, who left the show last year, and how the dynamic had changed with newcomer Dan Walker joining.
“It’s different without Billy. I love Bill. Dan, who’s replaced him, is amazing and he’s so much fun. So it’s different but still brilliant,” she explained.
However, the programme was beaten by its ITV rivals This Morning, who claimed the award for a second year in a row.
Hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield hinted that their victory could lead to another night of drunken debauchery.

Phillip, 54, said: “We’re really, really thrilled that we won it, which is incredible because it’s been a year of surprises. There were some brilliant winners. So it’s always fantastic.
“After last year we had a long chat this morning about who’s going to tell who to stop when, what stage we’re going to say, ‘now is the time to stop. We have to stop now.’ We didn’t actually reach a sensible conclusion.”
Co-host Holly, 35, then chipped in and exclaimed: “You don’t start the night with a sensible conclusion. It’s ridiculous!”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
