Zelda Breath of the Wild on Wii U has a new challenger which could also launch on Nintendo Switch
THQ Nordic have confirmed that contrary to online rumour, The Darksiders Warmastered Wii U version is on its way.
While many fans thought that Zelda Breath of the Wild was the last hurrah, there may still be time to spend a little bit more cash on the Nintendo console.
Darksiders Warmastered Edition for Wii U has a release date set for May 23rd, 2017 and retails at 19.99EUR/USD and 14.99 GBP.
The Action RPG is a remaster of the original Darksiders, boasting HD resolution and performance improvements.
“Deceived by the forces of evil into prematurely bringing about the end of the world, War – the first Horseman of the Apocalypse – stands accused of breaking the sacred law by inciting a war between Heaven and Hell,” the official game description reads.
“In the slaughter that ensued, the demonic forces defeated the heavenly hosts and laid claim to the Earth.”
However, while Wii U owners will be happy to see that this already announced project has not been canceled, it seems unlikely that the next installment in the series will feature on the console.

Darksiders II was also remastered and re-released, this time on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in October 2015.
"Naturally (and extremely excitedly!), there will be a large-scale project based on Darksiders, but for now it is very important for us to take care of the existing games and make those available to a broader audience," the company said in a statement.
"Bringing Darksiders II to current gen was a logical step for us and the team at Gunfire Games know their trade inside-out, so we easily and quickly had lots of ideas that we wanted to realize for this specific edition."

THQ Nordic have also confirmed that they have two projects in development for the Nintendo Switch, meaning that Darksiders Warmastered could be making its way onto another new platform soon.
Zelda Breath of the Wild, meanwhile, is currently rated as the best Wii U game of all time, beating the likes of Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros. and Bayonetta 2.
However, when it comes to user scores, Metacritic lists The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze as the top picks.

It was recently revealed that Instead of waiting for The Legend of Zelda on Switch, gamers have been heading to GameStop and buying Wii U consoles instead.
GameStop senior director of merchandising, Eric Bright, confirmed as much to Game Rant, revealing that the hype has left some fans unable to wait.
“With The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild coming out, we’re seeing great results in our pre-owned Wii U sales,” he confirmed.
“We’re selling a lot of pre-owned Wii U consoles along with brand new Wii U copies of Zelda.
“Breath of the Wild has reinvigorated sales of the Wii U with Nintendo Switch being sold out at so many retailers. The Switch launching and Zelda launching completely racked up the Wii U market.”
