The Prime Minister, on Tuesday, shocked the country when she made a dramatic political U-turn to announce her desire to take the country to the polls on June 8.
She had previously claimed she would not hold an early election as she looks to offer stability to the United Kingdom as it continues towards the European Union’s exit doors.
But Mrs May has now said not holding an election to secure her own mandate would leave her with a weakened hand at the negotating table with EU leaders.
The Prime Minister has now said she wants the British people to be confident she can deliver the will of the British people to leave the EU as she is set to defy the Westminster Remainers.

Theresa May has called for a snap general election
Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Mrs May said: "I do get on with the job that's in front of me, when I became Prime Minister last July I thought the most important thing was stability for the country.
"We'd had the referendum, which had come out with the result, in terms of voting to leave the EU, that hadn't been expected."
She added: "I thought it was important to have a degree of stability at that stage and ensure the British people could have confidence that their Government was going to deliver on what they'd voted for.
"When it came to triggering Article 50 it became clear the extent to which the opposition parties in Westminster were intent on what I describe as frustrating the Brexit process.
"Brexit isn't just about the letter that says we want to leave, it's about negotating the deal, getting the right deal from Europe, and when we've been told by the Liberal Democrats they want to grind the Government to a standstill, Labour threatening to vote against the deal, the SNP saying they would vote against us legislating to leave the European Union – I felt it important that the country is united."
