Xbox One dashboard update removes Snap
Xbox One is about about to ditch one of the console's biggest features, and Microsoft has just explained why.
Snap mode was an exciting new addition to Xbox One, letting users pull up a video walkthrough while playing a game, or even launch the football highlights without leaving their FIFA session.
But the new Xbox One update has put an end to all that, as Microsoft scraps the multitasking tool ahead of the Xbox One Scorpio release date.
But it's not all bad news, because the lack of Snap mode will improve the speed of the console and actually improve multitasking, says Microsoft's Mike Ybarra.
"We replaced Snap to improve multitasking, reduce memory use, improve overall speed, and free up resources going forward for bigger things," Ybarra told Twitter followers.
The Xbox One update is currently available to Insider members, but should roll out to the wider public soon.

The new Xbox One update makes it easier to navigate the dashboard by reducing the number of button presses required to use various functions.
The changes were explained by Microsoft in a new blog post: "One of the first things you’ll notice is a new look for Home.
"Through the Insider program, we’ve received feedback from Xbox One gamers that the UI can be complex and for certain tasks, can require too many button presses.
"Our goal is to simplify the UI and increase overall system performance, and that starts with updating Home based on what you care most about for the games you play.
"To do that, we’ve optimised for speed and are surfacing to you the most valuable content for your games."
As part of the changes, users will notice that the main game tile has been reduced in size, giving gamers the option to enter the Game Hub, interact with their Club, view Achievements and more.
It's been a busy week for Microsoft, as the company finally announced next month's Xbox Games with Gold lineup.
Xbox Live Gold subscribers will have two Xbox One games to download and two Xbox 360 games to download, although thanks to the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program, all of the games will be playable on Xbox One.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime will be available from the start of the month, followed by Project Cars Digital Edition. It should also be noted that Killer Instinct Season 2 Ultra Edition will be available until February 15 as well – this was part of January's GWG list.
The full lineup for Xbox Games with Gold February 2017 can be found below,
- Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime: Available from February 1-28 on Xbox One
- Project Cars Digital Edition: Available from February 16-March 15 on Xbox One
