Bookmakers William Hill have given the dancer odds of 4/6 after originally pricing him as an outsider at 16/1.
It was originally thought that Strictly professional Anton Du Beke might be about to fill the empty seat on the judging panel but now his odds have drifted out to 2/1 from 4/6.
“This is the sort of market where we might not see vast sums of money, but the interest we do see is generally well informed,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
“Overwhelmingly, the support has been for Gary Edwards, who could be waltzing in to the judge’s hot seat.”
