When will Iron Fist be released?
Season one will arrive on Netflix on March 17, 2017.
What is Iron Fist about?
Iron Fist is the fourth Marvel-Netflix series, following Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.
It follows a billionaire named Danny Rand, who was presumed to have died at 10 years old in a plane crash which killed his parents.
He returns to New York after 15 years ready to use his new-found kung-fu mastery and the powers of the Iron Fist to fight the criminals who have infiltrated his father’s company.
Jeff Loeb, head of Marvel TV, has called the series “Marvel’s foray into martial arts films”, and each episode is named after a classic movie.
He told Collider: “A lot of it is about a journey of finding self, not just in terms of who his character is, but in terms of what he wants to be as far as ‘Who is Danny Rand? What is the Iron Fist?’ and then, ‘How do these things get together?’
“We’re dealing with a character who is younger than the rest of [The Defenders], and who also has a certain kind of optimism and hope about him.”
Showrunner Scott Buck added: “Even if the comic books were the source of inspiration, our show is very grounded, it’s character driven, so we’re not following the comic books to that extent, but it just served as a starting-off point for us.”
Iron Fist will lead into The Defenders, a limited series which will bring all four of Netflix’s Marvel heroes together.
