When will Luke Cage season 2 be released?
Netflix is ramping up its superhero roster, with Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher all slated for a 2017 release.
Previously Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, had said that the streaming service is aiming for two Marvel series per year, meaning 2017 is already oversubscribed.
“I think ideally there will be a rhythm of about every six months you’ll get a new season or a new series from the Defenders group,” he said.
“And then they’ll crossover into a combined season once we’ve launched the first season of each of the four characters.”
It has been confirmed that Luke Cage season two, Daredevil season three and Jessica Jones season two will all launch after The Defenders – the new cross-over series which will bring all four of Netflix’s heroes together.
This means that the earliest Luke Cage season two could be released is 2018, and potentially not until 2019.
Luckily, Mike Colter will return as the bulletproof hero in The Defenders later this year, and he could also feature in Jessica Jones season two.

What will happen in Luke Cage season 2?
Season two is still a long way off, but there are a few guesses to be made as to what will happen.
A photo from the set of The Defenders showed Luke and Claire in a passionate embrace, hinting that season two will continue to explore their relationship.
What is less clear is whether Luke and Jessica will reconcile, and if so which show it will happen on.

Luke moved on and kissed Claire after his split from Jessica
In the original comics, Luke and Jessica get married and have a daughter, but Netflix has been known to deviate from the original source material.
In the season one finale, Claire told Luke that she knowns “a great lawyer” that could get him out of prison – likely to be Matt Murdock or Foggy Nelson.
A teaser picture for The Defenders shows that Luke will be in prison at the start of the series, so this mystery will likely be solved then.

It was also revealed that Diamondback is Luke’s brother, meaning that Dr Burstein can continue his experiments on the villain and give him powers that could be even stronger than Luke’s.
A team-up between Luke and Iron Fist is also on the way, Colter has confirmed.
In the comics the duo go into business as Heroes For Hire, and Colter has said: “We’re going to be getting ready to do Heroes for Hire eventually. We’re going to do it.”
