Ms Coulter, dubbed the US’ Katie Hopkins, said most people who add net gains arrived before 1970 and the US needed an immigration policy that attracted those who could help the country.
Her comments come after US officials said the Department of Homeland Security would hire 10,000 new immigration and border staff to meet the increase in enforcement on the 11 million illegal immigrants who live in America.
Speaking on Fox News, Ms Coulter said Americans needed to re-think their standpoint that all legal immigration was positive.

The controversial political commentator said: “There is this weird kink even Conservatives have in their brains, this legal immigration good, illegal immigration bad.
“No, the Boston marathon runners were legal. All of these refugees, the ones who shot up San Bernardino, the one – child of an immigrant – in Orlando, these are all legal immigrants.”
She added the vast majority of immigrants since 1970 “voted democrat” and consumed large amounts of welfare.

She said: “Why don’t we just have an immigration policy that brings in people that help us, that makes our country a better place.
"That, it seems to me, was the theme of the Trump campaign.
“How about we only get the cancer researchers and the smart ones."
Migrants who have misrepresented themselves to illegally obtain welfare payments will be hunted down under the President’s crackdown.
The programme for expedited removals will also be expanded from anyone within 100 miles of the border to all 50 states as Mr Trump lays the groundwork for mass deportations.
Local law enforcement agencies and police forces will be asked to assist in immigration raids where needed, the memo says.
Under the Barack Obama administration only immigrants convicted of serious crimes were a priority, but now all immigrants with convictions will be targeted.
