Russia warned the US against staging a repeat of its recent airstrikes
According to the Interfax news agency, he conveyed the news to his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Moualem during a meeting in Moscow.
Mr Lavrov said the understanding was “concluded” during US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s visit to the Kremlin on Wednesday.
During that meeting, Russia had warned the US against staging a repeat of its recent unauthorised missile strike against Syria.
Mr Lavrov said: “It is important to not allow repeat of such strikes, which were [in] violation of the law.”
The conversation came after President Donald Trump ordered a missile strike on a Syrian airbase.
The strike saw a barrage of 59 Tomahawk missiles launched against the Shayrat airfield in the western Syrian province of Homs, killing at least 15 people.
Russia forces had been based at the airfield, but US officials say they had been given adequate notice of the impending strike.
The attack lacked a United Nations Security Council mandate and went ahead without the consultation of the US Congress.
Observers said the US missile attack against the Syrian airfield threatened to spark a major confrontation between the major powers of Russia and the US.
Following the strike, Russian President Vladimir Putin said it had seriously hurt ties between the two nations.

Trump ordered a massive military strike against a Syria
To drum their point home, Moscow shut down a hot line that had been set up to prevent clashes between the Russian and American militaries in Syria.
Washington staged the strike over the accusation that Damascus had used the base to launch a gas attack in the northeastern Syrian province of Idlib a few days earlier.
Syria has vehemently denied the accusation, saying instead that a chemical weapons depot belonging to the anti-Damascus militants had been hit in a conventional Syrian airstrike.
