Ubisoft news: Ghost Recon Wildlands beta, The Division 1.6 and Rainbow Six Siege Velvet Shell
The Division 1.6 update is now in its last phase of testing on the public servers, with a new list of patch notes available to read from Ubisoft.
PTS4 for Last Stand and Update 1.6, planned to be the final version of this testing cycle, was released earlier this week.
Ubisoft say they are mostly tweaking what was established during the previous phases and will not be doing any drastic changes in this iteration of the PTS.
Some of the big tweaks are to weapons, with the Historian getting back its base damage, which means that headshots and critical hit chance will once again have an effect on its performance.
Legacy SMGs with Critical Hit Chance on them were initially planned for removal, however, plans have now changed with the studio now deciding to give back Critical Hit Chance to all SMGs instead.
The full Division 1.6 PTS4 patch notes can be found here.
The Ghost Recon Wildlands beta proved a popular trial, with many users looking to grab a key before today’s end date.
The easiest way was to try and grab one off someone who had already been confirmed a key, each signed-up participant was then given three key codes to share for themselves.
And now that the official trial has been completed, fans will be looking to see if a bigger Ghost Recon Wildlands Open Beta will be announced by Ubisoft.

The Ghost Recon Wildlands Beta begins on February 3
Other titles in the Tom Clancy collection produced by the publisher have followed similar routes – The Division was also given both a closed and open beta trial period.
No plans have currently been announced, however, it seems likely that something will be announced before the Ghost Recon Wildlands release date on March 7.
It would make a lot of sense to allow players the chance to try out the game, as with most heavily multiplayer experiences, it’s questionable whether Ubisoft will be providing review codes before launch.
During the recent beta, players were able to travel solo or team up with up to three friends in co-op and use a variety of vehicles, weapons, and equipment available to the Ghosts.
A Ubisoft community manager recently commented on some feedback from the beta, which focused on how a player runthrough didn’t seem to hold many consequences as he could just respawn and run back into a firefight.
“You have to keep in mind that the beta area was one of the lower difficulty areas,” the Ubisoft community manager replied.
“As you get into more difficult zones, a more tactical approach will be rewarded.
“Granted the game doesn't force you to play in any one particular playstyle, but as you go on, the more tactical you are, the less potential headache you're setting yourself up for.”
The Rainbow Six Siege Velvet Shell update is now live and provides players with two new Operators named Jackal and Mira, as well as the new Coastline map set in Ibiza.
The content is free to season pass owners from today, and will be available to buy using real money or in-game currency from next week for everybody else.
The bumper new update also makes a ton of gameplay tweaks and fixes, and adds new weapon skins, a personalised play button and much more.
Fans can look forward to four new Velvet Shell Signature weapon skins being added this week, including the Chupinazo, El Dorado, León Furioso and Crossfader, which offer some vibrant new designs inspired by the colors of the Spanish shores.
A new dynamic navigation interface for Rainbow Six Siege is also being introduced. This mandate originated from ample reflection on ways to improve player comfort after a year of live content.
Xavier Marquis, R6 Creative Director, explained the importance of this change: “Focusing our effort on improving the User Interface reaffirms our pledge to the community: we are working hard on ensuring the game’s longevity. Since we are here to stay, we’re making sure that you are getting comfortable.”

Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Velvet Shell
MIRA: "If you’re on the team that’s hunkering down, Velvet Shell’s new defensive Operator, Mira (Spanish for “look”), is particularly well-suited to spotting the enemy as they creep through Coastline’s hallways. Her specialty is creating Black Mirrors, nearly indestructible horizontal one-way windows that can be punched into barricades or destructible walls.
"While enemies can see the mirrors themselves, they can’t see if anyone’s behind them – and if they’re careless, it’s easy for a defender to get the drop on them by smashing a small gas canister in the frame to eject the glass and turn a Black Mirror into a murder hole.
"Black Mirrors can be placed at standing or crouching height, making them especially useful for spotting sneaky enemies or kneecapping overconfident ones. And because Mira comes standard with either an ITA12L shotgun or Vector .45 ACP submachine gun, enemies can rapidly go from 'spotted' to 'dead'."
JACKAL: “Velvet Shell’s attacking Operator, who can activate special eyewear that lets him see enemy footprints. The more recent the prints, the “hotter” they’ll appear in Jackal’s view, so if you see bright red bootprints, there’s likely an enemy nearby.
“Even if you find older prints that are green or blue, you can still get valuable intel by scanning them and revealing their owner’s position to your team. Once an enemy is scanned, they’ll be marked with an icon (similar to a camera scan marker) a few times over the course of the next minute of the match.
“Jackal can scan up to three times per match, and it takes a few seconds of looking at the floor, during which you’re vulnerable – but if you’re dealing with roamers, looking for someone to shoot through an un-barricaded wall, or trying to find that one last straggler on the enemy team, Jackal’s Eyenox Model III can lead you right to them.”
