Donald Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer has Wikipedia changed to Chemical Ali

Sean Spicer has been named as Donald Trump's communications officer, but internet trolls have broken into his Wikipedia page and changed his profile picture to that of Ali Hassan al-Majid – the man responsible for gassing the Kurdish people under Saddam's reign of terror.

Mr Spicer, 45, was communications director of the Republican National Committee from 2011 to 2017 and its chief strategist from 2015 to 2017.

The symbolism behind the alterations to Mr Spicer's Wikipedia picture could be that Chemical Ali was known for proclaiming his Iraqi army was winning the war in 2003 as allied troops' bombs rained down around him.

Sean Spicer's wikipedia page has been hacked to include a picture of Chemical Ali

It follows a day where Mr Spicer claimed the attendance at President Trump's inauguration ceremony was the largest in history, something that has been widely contested.

Mr Spicer said: "Photographs of the inaugural proceedings were intentionally framed in a way, in one particular Tweet, to minimize the enormous support that had gathered on the National Mall.

"That was the largest audience to witness an inauguration, period. Both in person and around the globe."
