Tory MP Anna Soubry wants SECOND REFERENDUM on EU negotiation if UK given bad deal

In suggestions which sounds like history repeating itself, the Conservative remainer said Britons should vote on the outcome of negotiations, just like they did after David Cameron's failed attempt to secure concessions from Brussels.

The Conservative politician hinted the British people could face a second Brexit referendum if the UK gets a bad deal from the EU.

Theresa May is planning to trigger article 50 by the end of March. However she is waiting for a Supreme Court verdict to reveal whether MPs in parliament will have to vote before she activates it.

The Prime Minister said she would pull out of the single market and also suggested if the European Union offers the UK a bad trade deal, then Britain will say no and seek trade with other countries across the globe.

Anna Soubry admitted she was not happy with what Britain could be left with following a bad EU deal

But this threat has worried Mrs Soubry who claimed this could spark outrage and admitted the British people should be given a chance to decide on the matter.

Speaking on Sophy Ridge on Sunday she said: “What really worries me is the idea that at the end of two years we either have no deal, or a poor deal.

“No government is going to recommend to the people of this country that they accept a poor deal.

“In that event we just go for hard Brexit. That would be the very worst thing that could occur.

“So at the end of the two years I want us to keep all our options open so that the people, not just parliament, but the people can have a genuine debate and discussion about what those options are and what they want.”

Mrs Soubry finished by revealing she hopes the Supreme Court uphold the High Courts decision next week meaning that parliament would get a vote before Article 50 is triggered allowing the bill to be scrutinised by MPs.

Hard Brexit would be the very worst thing that could occur

Anna Soubry

She said: “I very much hope that the Supreme Court upholds the judgement of the High Court.

“I don’t want us to mess about on all this. Because I think most people are getting bit cheesed off with the whole thing.”

Outlining her 12-point Brexit strategy on Tuesday, Theresa May said: “As a priority we will pursue a bold and ambitious free trade agreement with the European Union. This agreement should allow for the freest possible trade in goods and services between Britain and the EU’s member states.

“But I want to be clear, what I am proposing can not mean membership of the single market”.
