Manchester City went on to claim the title, meaning Gerrard eventually retired without ever winning the league.
Torres admits he was gutted for his old team-mate, despite his allegiances to Chelsea at the time.
"I felt so sorry for Stevie," Torres told BBC's Football Focus.
"We didn't have chances to win the Premier League at Liverpool.

"They were so close and I know how important for Liverpool it was to win the Premier League after so many years.
