Tiger Woods, who is currently ranked World No. 663, has not competed on the main PGA Tour since sharing 10th place at the Wyndham Championship in August, 2015.

And while knowing Day and 'D J' very well, Woods has many fond memories in returning to this week’s event on the Torrey Pines course as he has won many times along the Pacific Ocean layout including a last Major victory – 2008 US Open.

In fact, Woods has won the Farmers Insurance Open (Previously named the Buick Invitational) eight times first in 2000 and then again in 2001, 2003 and from 2005 to 2008 and captured an eighth title in 2013.

I’ve spoken to Tiger and he seems excited to be back after 17 months off

Jason Day

Day, who added his name to the trophy two years ago, is delighted to be competing alongside the 14-time Major winning Woods.

The Ohio-based Day and Woods have become close friends as was clearly obvious during the opening two rounds of the 2015 Open Championship at St. Andrews with the pair talking continuously between shots so much so Louis Oosthuizen, and the third member of the group, hardly got a word it over 36 holes of the Old Course.

“I’ve spoken to Tiger and he seems excited to be back after 17 months off," said Day.

Jason Day is looking forward to playing with Tiger Woods at the Farmers Insurance Open

“That’s a long time. I know that he’s motivated to come out and play well. And I think he’s won eight tournaments as a professional here.

“So it’s going to be great playing with him but then it would be great to play with him also on Sunday. Not early, late as that would be nice.”
