Apple is bringing one of the most useful features from iOS into macOS Sierra
Apple is bringing Night Shift to its desktop operating system, macOS.
The nifty feature was first introduced by Apple in iOS 9.3 back in March 2016.
Night Shift will shift the colours in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum to reduce the strain on your eyes caused by harsh blue light in a dark room.
On macOS, it will adjust the colours of any connected external displays as well as the in-built Retina display.
Studies have shown that exposure to bright blue light in the evening can affect your circadian rhythms and make it harder to fall asleep.

Warming the colour temperature of your device's display will be easier on your eyes and could improve your sleep.
On iOS, users are able to preschedule Night Shift with a timetable, or can set the feature to automatically switch on and off based on when the sun sets in your current location.
The functionality is very similar to F.lux, a lightweight app for macOS, Android, Linux, and Windows.
Apple has a reputation for replicating the functionality of popular third-party applications with its own operating systems.

These software updates are often jokingly referred to as "Sherlocking", based on Apple's infamous creation of Sherlock in response to an existing third-party solution called Watson.
Night Shift appeared in the first beta for macOS 10.12.4.
Developers signed-up for the beta program can test out Night Shift on macOS right now, however, the final release date for the update is not known.
