The Walking Dead season 7: Does Daryl die in the comics?

Daryl escaped from Negan and the Saviors in the mid-season finale and is now looking for revenge, according to the actor that plays him.

Norman Reedus teased: “He’s ready to fight, when he goes back in that last episode and hands Rick back his stuff, it was like, ‘Let’s go! Let’s go beat this guy up. Let’s go take what’s ours and fight this monster.’ So, you know, he’s in kill mode.”

The rest of season seven is expected to see Daryl, Rick and the Alexandria survivors team up with the Hilltop and the Kingdom to wage war on Negan.

But some fans fear that the climactic battle could claim more lives after the deaths of Spencer, Glenn and Abraham earlier in the season.

Robert Kirkman’s original comic series offers a few hints as to what might happen.

Daryl is unique to the show but his season seven storyline is a mix of Carl and Eugene’s comic book interactions with Negan.

The Walking Dead season 7 spoiler: Rick betrayed as he declares to 'all out war' on Negan

In the books, Carl snuck into The Sanctuary and opened fire at the Saviours.

Dwight quickly caught him and threatened to kill him, but Negan chose to spare him because he wanted to mould him in his own image.

Similarly, in season seven Dwight threatened to kill Daryl but was stopped by Negan.

In The Walking Dead comics, Eugene is imprisoned by Negan

The second half of Daryl’s story is based on Eugene's, who was taken prisoner by The Saviors in the comics.

The alleged scientist plotted an escape for himself and the other prisoners, but ended up being freed by Dwight as he turned on Negan.

Another possibility is that Daryl could follow Holly’s fate.

In the series Holly appeared once before she was stabbed by one of the Wolves, but in the comics she was captured and imprisoned by the Saviours.

After a period of time Negan agreed to let Holly go, but when she returned to Alexandria she had turned into a walker.

Fans will have to wait until The Walking Dead returns in February to find out Daryl’s fate.
