Ahead of the zombie epic’s return on February 12, AMC have shared some tantalising new photos of the cycle ahead as Rick plots to kill the barbarian who pulverised Abraham Ford and Glenn Rhee before holding Daryl Dixon captive and torturing him with pop songs.
As well as new images, AMC also shared a brief synopsis which simply revealed: “Rick is introduced to a new community."
What’s more, showrunner Scott F. Gimple dropped a shock bombshell about the show’s leading protagonist.
“It propels us into a very different half season from the one before it,” he said of the midseason premiere, while promising: “Before the end of that very first episode back, you will see Rick Grimes smile.”

The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus
One thing’s for certain in the next chapter of The Walking Dead, Rick and his allies will be plotting full on war against Negan and the Saviors, which will no doubt come at a cost.
Norman Reedus, who stars as crossbow-wielding warrior Daryl, revealed his character will want “revenge”.
"When he goes back in that last episode and hands Rick back his stuff, it was like, 'Let's go! Let's go beat this guy up. Let's go take what's ours and fight this monster'. So, you know, he's in kill mode,” he said.

Morgan star Lennie James recently revealed to Express.co.uk that at least two heroes will meet a brutal end during the next eight episode run, and all the fingers are pointing towards Sasha Williams.
Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays the heroine, appeared to have sealed Sasha’s fate by landing the lead role in the highly-anticipated Star Trek: Discovery.
Though, the 31-year-old actress remained coy when discussing her character’s future: “Well, I can’t say anything,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead season 7b
“I can say that the story is as impactful and powerful and dynamic as it always has been, and there’s nothing to worry about where that’s concerned.
“I’ve seen her battle a horde of walkers this year while simultaneously battling a stomach flu that would have had most people crying in the dirt.”
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on February 12 in the US and airs the following day on FOX UK.
