The 19-year-old plunged at least 10ft from the top of a building at a unit in the Derwent Works, in Matlock Road, Ambergate.
Emergency services, including Derbyshire Police, rushed to the scene about 8pm after receiving reports of a man who had fallen from height.

A spokeswoman for the police said: "The man, thought to be aged 19, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“It looked like at least 10 or 20 feet and was then taken to hospital by ambulance."
Tributes for the young man have been pouring in from the community.
County councillor David Williams, who represents Ambergate, told the Derby Telegraph: “It's a tragic situation.

“I believe the incident has happened on the derelict part of the site, rather than where companies are still working.

A resident along Matlock Road, where the tragedy occurred, said she was ‘saddened’ after hearing of the death.

She said: "It's left me very saddened. It's terrible news and a real tragedy. I cannot remember any of deaths happening on that site before.
“You have to think why would somebody be hanging around there at that time.
"My thoughts are with his family at such a sad time. He's only young as well. He would have had a real life to lead but now it's over."
