Liverpool's hopes of winning a first Premier League title look likely to be put on hold for another year with Chelsea 11 points ahead of Jurgen Klopp's men.
Their best chance in recent years came in the 2013/14 season with Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard pulling the strings.
The Reds were top with just two weeks to go but drew one and lost one of the last three games to hand Manchester City the title.
Steven Gerrard believes Luis Suarez could have helped Liverpool win the Premier League
The duo came agonisingly close in 2014 but fell short in Suarez's last year at Liverpool
Suarez would join Barcelona that summer and Liverpool would finish the following season outside of the Champions League places.
But Gerrard believes the Uruguay international may have helped Liverpool clinch that elusive Premier League title if he decided to stay in England.
"There’s so many good teams in the Premier League but he would have given Liverpool a better chance," Gerrard told BT Sport.

Luis Suarez watches Liverpool train
"You’re guaranteed goals, assists, he just causes every opposition problems and creates a lot of space for the players around him.
"He’s relentless – that’s the word to sum him up. He scores great goals, all type of goals, he creates out of nothing.
"He occupies the whole back four by himself. He was an absolute dream to play with. He was always on the move so that you could pick him out.
"Just a phenomenal footballer. He’s gone to another level since he moved to Barcelona with his goal and assist return."
