“In their mind, that’s what StarCraft had always looked like. We had to say, “No no no, we went back to the original units, look: it was only 32 pixels.”
“Now you can see it in 4K and totally see the difference. The fact that people couldn’t tell the difference shows me that we did our job right—we stayed so true to the original that it mirrors players’ memories.”
On redoing the visual effects, Brian revealed that Blizzard are completely revamping the designs, revealing that some things needed to be replaced in the game to warrant the Remastered project.
“The effects in StarCraft: Remastered are being created with the best effects programs we have,” he added.

“They’re nice, but, you know, they’re just four colors! We’re not going to make a four-color explosion now, we’re going to use all the colors we can.”
Other updates will include new 4K functionality, illustrations to enhance storytelling in the StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War campaign missions; advanced matchmaking; full connectivity to Blizzard’s gaming network for social features and updates; cloud saving for campaign progress, custom maps, replays, and keybinds and support for eight new languages in addition to the original five.
While the exact StarCraft Remastered release date and price has yet to be announced, a summer launch is on the cards.
That should mean that we hear something very soon from Blizzard team, even if it means a delay in launch.
