The unprecedented move saw military soldiers suddenly walk up unannounced behind the recently-pronounced US President Donald Trump.

Viewers online were shocked by the mysterious manouveres, triggering wild conspiracy theories that the movement was a preparation for "martial law" or a military-style coup.

The eerie moment of confusion came as the group of soldiers in uniform walked up and filed behind Mr Trump just minutes into his eagerly-anticipated inauguration speech.

The unprecedented move saw military soldiers suddenly walk up unannounced behind the new president

The soldiers flanked the new US leader just as Mr Trump proclaimed to the world: "Today's ceremony however has very special meaning because today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power and giving it back to you, the people."

The strange incident appeared to take another bizarre twist when the military men suddenly walked away just 40 seconds later.

Another man in uniform walked up to the servicemen and appeared to tell the soldiers something, prompting the soldiers to abruptly leave the stage.

The 45th president of the United States didn't appear to notice anything abnormal and continued to carry out his speech.

It remains unclear what happened during the presidential speech, however many believe it was simply a mis-step by the soldiers.

Military sources told TMZ that "no-one's saying anything".

However, speculation was rife on social media with one user tweeting that they "thought Trump was about to declare martial law".

Another added: "What was going on with the soldiers behind Trump during his inauguration speech? They looked like they were going to take him away!"

Others echoed this sentiment and pushed theories that the soldiers have appeared behind Trump to "arrest" him mid-speech.
