Tory MP David Warburton launched an astonishing attack on the SNP
David Warburton, MP for Somerton and Frome, launched an astonishing attack on what he described as the “massively vocal whinge-and-resentment experts“ who sit on the SNP benches.
In an article for his local newspaper, the Conservative backbencher insisted it was “hard not to get pretty sick of the Scottish National Party”.

Mr Warburton wrote: “Squeezed onto the opposition benches like overripe, unidentifiable exotic fruit, they bob up and down, their pips bursting with numberless grievances.
“Whatever the subject, they are the downtrodden victims. You would never guess that they get more funding than any other region or area in the UK.
“You would never guess that they have their own parliament and control their own education, health, justice and agriculture.
“You would never guess that, despite these massively vocal whinge-and-resentment experts regularly annexing parliamentary procedure in Westminster, there are actually more people here in the West Country than in the whole of Scotland.”

Graham Purnell accused the Tory politician of using a “racist trope” as part of “anti-Scottish rhetoric” while Andrew Dalgleish wrote: “Surely you can’t be a real MP?”
SNP MP John Nicolson posted: “Mmm. And to think I've always thought of @DJWarburton as a sweet soul….”
Mr Warburton replied to his fellow MP: “Am still sweet John 😉 Just expressing my admiration for you guys..! See you next week.”

In response to Mr Warburton’s article, an SNP spokeswoman said: "The Tory MP was right about one thing when he said the SNP were 'arguably the best organised fighting force in Westminster’.
"Mr Warburton should take a leaf out of the SNP's book and get on with his job rather than filling his local paper with attempts at satire."
