Giovanni Ribisi stars in the new series from Bryan Cranston
Will Sneaky Pete return for season 2? Amazon release date
The new show is currently the most watched thing on Amazon and holds the highest-ever score on Metacritic (99/100), so it comes as no surprise that season 2 is already in the works.
Joe Lewis, Amazon’s head of comedy and drama, said: “[Executive producers] Bryan Cranston and Graham Yost have done a masterful job of steering the cast to fantastic performances.
“Both the critical response and our customers’ engagement with the series are key factors in our enthusiasm to bring our audience a second season of Sneaky Pete.”
Amazon has yet to announce a release date for season two, but it will likely debut at the start of 2018.
The online giant has also renewed its other smash-hit series The Man In The High Castle for a third season, to be released later this year.
The series follows a man who takes his cellmate's identity after being released from prison
What is Sneaky Pete about?
The series follows Marius Josipovic, an ex-convict who owes a gangster money, so assumes the identity of his cellmate Pete on his release from prison.
Marius heads to the real Pete’s grandparents, who haven’t seen their grandson for 20 years and unbelievably, accept Marius into their home.
He finds himself working as a “skip tracer” – a role which sees him try to catch people who skip bail – alongside Pete’s friend Julia.
Cranston works behind the camera as executive producer
Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston came up with the idea for the show while accepting an Emmy for his role as Walter White.
In his speech, he said: “I don’t know why I have been blessed with an abundance of good fortune in my life.
“I was a kid who always looked for the shortcut, a schemer. My own family nicknamed me Sneaky Pete.”
The next day, the president of Sony TV called Cranston and asked if Sneaky Pete could be a series about someone who never grows out of taking shortcuts.
