Starting today, Spectacles will be available for purchase for the first time outside of the United States, launching in the UK and across Europe.
Spectacles first became available in the U.S. back in November last year and have since been a popular pair of sunglasses companion for the popular social media platform, Snapchat. It’s also the first hardware product from Snap Inc allowing users to capture the world hands-free from their perspective.
Using the Spectacles, you can record up to 10-second of video Snap just by tapping the button on the left-hand temple and tap again for an additional 10 seconds and you can also record up to 30 seconds video continuously. Videos are captured and saved in a circular format which can then be transferred wirelessly to Snapchat before editing and uploading as you see fit.
In order to know when you’re recording, there’s a light on the inside that is non-intrusive and another on the outside which will allow others to know you are recording. It also doubles up as a battery level indicator. Your snaps will stay in the memories section of the app, allowing you to also download them to your device camera roll should you wish to share with other platforms. If you use an Android device, files are transferred over WiFi and iOS uses Bluetooth or WiFi if transferring HD videos.
Available to purchase in teal, coral and black, Snap Inc will follow the same format as when it was launched in the U.S. by landing its Snapbots in surprising, fun locations which are usually shared via Spectacles’ website and Twitter. It will be landing in across the U.K., France, Germany, Spain and Italy this summer.
Snapbots will first land in London, Munich, Paris, Venice and Barcelona and potential buys are notified 24 hours before landing, and the Snapbots will appear for about a day at a time, from there you can purchase a pair using a credit or debit card.
If you can’t make it to the Snapbots, you can also purchase them online for £129.99 in the UK and €149.99 in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and Sweden.
