But reports claiming police were called to a shooting proved to be false.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed a man’s body was found in Bridgewater Canal.
A spokesman said: “At around 9.20am on Friday 10 February 2017, police were called to Trafford Wharf Road in Trafford Park.
“On arrival the body of a man was discovered in the Bridgewater Canal.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Formal identification is yet to take place.”
The incident has stopped Manchester’s water taxis from running but barges have been allowed to make their way long the canal.

The area has been sealed off from the public.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious but fears have been raised the city’s infamous canal “pusher” may have struck again.
Since 2008, dozens of bodies have been pulled from Manchester’s canals sparking fears a killer could be on the loose.
The area around the canal has been cordoned off
But police have insisted there is no evidence the deaths are linked.
Last year Ex-Det Ch Supt Tony Blockley said: “If a serial killer decided to cause their deaths by pushing them into the water, how could that person guarantee they would die?
"In which case survivors would have come forward. Also, none of the individuals have marks (on their bodies) which are consistent with a violent attack which one would expect to see."
