The Fury actor launched the four-year project, titled He Will Not Divide Us, last Friday but has found himself in trouble with the law less than a week in.
Shia, 30, has enlisted members of the public to take part in a live-streamed protest against U.S. President Donald Trump for the entirety of his first term in office.
"He will not divide us," the protesters shout in front of a camera that is fixed outside of New York City's Museum of the Moving Image.

The city's police department have been stationed at the protest since Monday, according to TMZ, and didn't hesitate to jump in after Shia allegedly grabbed the scarf of a man who made an offensive comment.
It's claimed that the political activist scratched the troll in the process, prompting officers to lead him away in handcuffs.
"Shia took a hit for us. There were all these Nazis here, he came out and tried to protect us," one protester told the publication.
A previous video on the site showed an unknown man going in to hug Shia before preaching: "Hitler did nothing wrong."
The Transformers star is then said to have pushed the man before the camera panned away, though it is not clear if this was the incident that resulted in the actor's arrest.

Shia is now being held at the 114th Precinct Station house, with TMZ alleging that the actor is looking at a misdemeanour assault charge.
On Sunday, footage from the protest showed one of Shia's adversaries interrupt his demonstration to shout: "We must ensure the existence of white people as a race."
Attempting to shut down the white nationalist, Shia directed his body in front of the man and repeatedly screamed: "He will not divide us" in the interloper's face while shoving him away.
