The former Ukip leader said his push for Britain to exit the European Union had been “hellish” and had contributed to the breakup of his family.
His revelation was part of a TV blind date with Boris Johnson’s sister Rachel, shown on BBC2’s Victoria Derbyshire.
Farage admitted the “sheer nastiness and agro” of the campaign had affected him hard.
Asked whether he was single, he said: “That’s a very good question. A lot of people are asking that question.
Nigel Farage said he was now "separated" and "skint" after the Brexit vote
I don’t think anyone would have survived what I’ve been doing for the last five years frankly
“I’m not very married at the moment, let’s put it like that.
“I think separated is my legal status. I don’t think anyone would have survived what I’ve been doing for the last five years frankly.
“Not that I’ve been perfect, well I’m not, but it’s been pretty awful. Just hellish really.
‘I’m talking about the sheer nastiness and agro that comes with this. I’m pleased to be out of it.”

Johnson tried to buoy up the former party leader as she said he had got “what he wanted” with Brexit.
She said: “It’s sad that your private life’s fallen apart. You’ve done it for a noble cause.
“Come on Nigel you’ll be fine. You can’t complain, you’ve got what you want.”
But Farage hit back and said: “53, separated, skint, great isn’t it.”
Asked why he was skint, he added: “20 years of doing this. Loads of kids.”
He later refused to answer whether he would go to bed with a Remainer.
He laughed off Johnson’s claims leaving the European Union without a deal is “vandalism”.
