Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel wins the Australian Grand Prix
Vettel had qualified second behind Lewis Hamilton, the Brit's 62nd career pole position, and was beaten into Turn One as the Mercedes got away cleanly.
However, Hamilton was unable to look after his tyres and was forced to make his pit stop on Lap 17.
On his return to the race, he found himself behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen while Vettel lapped quicker, and when he eventually pitted, he came out in front of both drivers, a result that proved decisive.
Vettel cruised to his 43rd race victory with a 9.9 second gap to runner-up Hamilton.
Bottas briefly threatened to catch his new team-mate in the closing stages but the Finn was unable to overhaul the three-time world champion.
