Santa Clarita Diet: Creator explains THAT finale cliffhanger in new Drew Barrymore series

Drew Barrymore's new series Santa Clarita Diet only dropped onto Netflix yesterday but, viewers are already asking for answers following the season finale.

The horror-comedy series sees Sheila (played by Drew Barrymore) and Joel Hammond's (Timothy Olyhant) marriage turned upside down when she becomes a zombie who feeds on human flesh.

While the couple try to deal with their drastic lifestyle change over the course of 10 episodes, it all becomes a bit too much in the season finale.

Sheila becomes increasingly violent towards her husband, while Joel ends up revealing too much information after he is arrested.

In a bid to protect her family, Sheila chains herself up in the basement, while Joel can be seen being dragged away to be hospitalised following his shocking admission.

And, following those final minutes, fans have a lot of questions about what the future holds for the Hammond's.

Now, the show's creator Victor Fresco has opened up on the cliffhanger and explained what it really means.

"We wanted to keep ratcheting things up and we knew we wanted to end on a fun cliffhanger to get us into the second season," he commented.

Meanwhile, for viewers wondering whether or not Sheila will ever return to human form, Victor told Entertainment Weekly: "She's always going to be undead.

"She's not going to grown her toe back, and her eye's not going to regenerate, and so the object is to stop symptoms before they get worse. She's starting to lose control."
