Samsung Gear S3 Frontier is powered by TizenOS 3.0
A brand-new version of Samsung's TizenOS, the operating system that powers the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier amongst others, is scheduled for release in September 2017.
TizenOS 4.0 is currently under development – with the first beta for the new software scheduled for June, a post on the Samsung developer website has confirmed.
The new software is expected to ship with a richer feature set, and faster speeds than its predecessor
The webpage claims, "the first official version of Tizen .NET will be released in September 2017 as a part of Tizen 4.0."
TizenOS was designed as a competitor to Apple's iOS and Google's open-source Android OS. But it has struggled to match their market share.
Samsung currently uses the software to power its smartwatches, like the Gear S2 and Gear S3, as well as smart TVs.

The operating system could also be used to power the company's home appliances, like washing machines and vacuum cleaners.
Samsung smartphones are not currently powered by TizenOS, but use Android instead.
There have been plenty of rumours Samsung plans to move its phones over to TizenOS in an effort to avoid being too reliant on Google and its services.
Samsung is also working on technology to enable its Android-powered mobile devices, Windows PCs and Tizen devices to communicate easily with one another.
Tizen 3.0 brought 64-bit compatibility as well as support for 4K Ultra HD graphics and image and speech recognition.

Samsung also claimed Tizen 3.0 was 30 per cent faster its predecessor, Tizen 2.4.
With the first beta set for June, Samsung appears to be moving away from Tizen 3.0 pretty fast.
And with a release date scheduled for September, it is more than likely that the next-generation operating system will ship alongside the Samsung Gear S4 smartwatch.

Samsung Galaxy S8 will get a dramatic new design, with no buttons, and an edge-to-edge display
Express.co.uk was incredibly impressed with the latest iteration of the smartwatch.
"The Gear S3 has a stunning always-on screen which is incredibly responsive and the rotating bezel is still one of the best ways to navigate on such a tiny display," we wrote.
"Battery life is good and there's more features now included to make the device far more useful.
"Samsung has also been clever by letting users attach any standard strap to the Gear S3 meaning owners won't be forced to pay extortionate prices to change the style of the watch."
