We could be just weeks away from getting the Samsung Galaxy S8.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 release date is just weeks away.

With excitement continuing to build around Samsung's next Android flagship, phone fans around the world are clamouring to know exactly when they'll be able to get their hands on the new device.

Samsung is choosing to miss the Mobile World Congress trade show, where it typically reveals its new smartphones, in favour of a standalone event for the launch of the Galaxy S8.

Now, new reports have claimed to know not just when this event will take place, but also the date that you'll be able to purchase the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Samsung Galaxy S8 looks set to be the smartphone to beat this year. Following a swathe of rumours from the Chinese supply chain, a number of graphic designers have cooked-up high-resolution renders of what the smartphone could look like, when it launches in the UK in April 2017

Samsung Galaxy S8 will get a dramatic new design, with no buttons, and an edge-to-edge display

A report from ET News is claiming that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will go on sale worldwide on April 21st.

Quoting a "high-ranking official for a mobile network provider", the report corroborates other recent leaks which say that the device will be revealed on March 29th.

Samsung is set to hold a launch event in New York late next month, although there has been no official word on this just yet.

The company is expected to reveal some details on the Galaxy S8 launch during its press event

But if true, this means that you only have to wait a few more weeks to get your hands on the device.

Is this what the Samsung Galaxy S8 will look like?

The news comes as more details were also leaked about a possible bigger brother to the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Noted leakster Evan Blass posted what he claims is the spec sheet for the Samsung Galaxy S8 plus.

Set to be revealed at the same event, the Galaxy S8+ will feature a bigger screen and more powerful hardware than its companion as Samsung goes all-out.

Blass' leak claims that the Galaxy S8+ is set to arrive with a monster 6.2in Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display, making it the biggest Samsung smartphone to date.

The device is able to boast such size thanks to some seriously reduced bezels, and is significantly larger than the 5.7in display expected in the basic device.

The super-sized Galaxy S8 Plus will also feature some equally beefed-up hardware to match, reportedly including a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The device will also sport a new iris scanner for biometric unlocking, as seen on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, allowing users to access their device without needing to enter a password.

There's also a powerful 12MP dual pixel rear camera, and 8MP front lens, and wireless charging via a separate charging pad accessory.

The device comes with IP68 dust and water resistance, meaning it'll be able to deal with bumps and scrapes – but crucially, isn't fully waterproof.

Blass has also recently leaked these phone cases, reportedly also for the Samsung Galaxy S8

There's no official confirmation from Samsung yet on any of these reports, but today's leaks are far from the only rumours surrounding the Galaxy S8.

Other reports have claimed that the S8 also looks set to ditch the physical home button and switch the fingerprint scanner to the rear of the device.

It's currently unclear how users will interact without a home button although some reports suggest it will be embedded under the display.

Express.co.uk will be at Samsung's media event in Barcelona on February 26th to find out more.
