Samsung S7 Nougat updateSAMSUNG

Android Nougat is out now for the Galaxy S7 but there's a reason you can't download it

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users are finally beginning to see Android Nougat arrive on their devices.

The Korean technology giant began pushing out the major update last week with many, lucky enough to get the new software, applauding its upgraded features.

However, not every has been able to get Android Nougat and there's a simple reason why.

If your device was purchased directly from Samsung or you opted for a SIM Only deal it's likely you're already enjoy some tasty Nougat treats.

But, if you opted for a deal through a deal with a mobile operator you're probably stuck with Android Marshmallow.

This is because the operators have to test the update Samsung released before unleashing it on their customers.

Testing is hugely important for operators as it gives them the chance to stop any bugs before the upgrade lands on devices.

In a statement to Express.co.uk an EE spokesperson said: "Like the majority of UK networks, we’re working with Samsung and hope to have an approved nougat O/S file to roll out to our Galaxy S7 customers shortly.”

It's unclear when the majority of pay monthly users will get the update but it should arrive within the next few weeks.

Android Nougat brings a number of major improvements and upgrades, marking the Google’s most advanced software release to date.

These include a number of new emoji, Google’s new GIF keyboard, and “launcher shortcuts” which adds 3D-Touch-esque features to the homescreen.

Google originally announced Nougat last Summer with the internet giant's own-brand devices the first to get access to the new features.

To check if your Android phone is ready to updated head to Settings > About device > download updates manually.

Sony has also halted the launch of this new OS on its Xperia range after a number of users reported problems.

In a statement the Japanese tech firm said: "We were made aware of reports from some users experiencing inconsistencies related to audio playback via third-party apps and SD card encrypted data read performance, after upgrading to Android 7.0, Nougat.

"We’ve identified the root cause and are aiming to provide corrective firmware and re-commence the rollout as soon as possible.”

Sony was updating its range of Xperia Z5, Xperia Z3+, and Xperia Z4 Tablets when the problems appeared.
