“He’s the nearest I've seen to Thierry Henry in full flow," Ferdinand told BT Sport.
Sane, 21, struggled to make an impact in his first few months at the Etihad but has become an integral part of Pep Guardiola's side since the turn of the year.
The Germany international has scored seven goals and set up two more in 2017 in all competitions – including the opening goal in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the weekend.

And Ferdinand's BT co-pundit Steven Gerrard echoed the former Man United star's comments by suggesting he could become a Premier League great.
“I think the reason [Antonio] Conte put [Cesar] Azpiliceuta there is to keep a close eye on Sane with his experience and is great in one-on-one situation," Gerrard said.
“But this kid is definitely a talent, he’s got the potential to be one of the best in the league in years to come and for his first season under Pep he’s gone from strength to strength."
