Arturo Vidal scored and missed from the spot, but a Javi Martinez red card meant Real were able to capitalise from the man advantage.
But Ronaldo's double strike ensured he became the first player in the history of the competition to reach the 100-goal landmark.

And Ferdinand, who played alongside Ronaldo during their time together at Manchester United, is in awe of what his former team-mate is still achieving.
"He's an obsessed person and obsessed footballer with an obsession to improve year in year out and to sustain that quality," Ferdinand told BT Sport.
"The standards he sets himself is ridiculous."

Ronaldo ended an 11-hour wait for a goal when he netted at the Allianz Arena.
Real host Bayern in the return leg on Tuesday (7.45pm).
