Rangers Transfer News: Bruno Alves is set to sign
The 35-year-old Portuguese defender arrived in Glasgow on Tuesday for discussions about a move to Ibrox.
The former Porto, Zenit St Petersburg and Fenerbahce centre-back, who has been capped 89 times and who was member of Portugal's Euro 2016-winning squad, is expected to be Pedro Caixinha's first signing.
The statement on Cagliari's official website read: "After a season in red and blue, Bruno Alves leaves Cagliari to face a new professional challenge.
"The club would like to thank Alves for all he has done in Cagliari and wishes now the greatest satisfaction for the continuous of his career."
Alves has 89 caps for Portugal and is part of their squad for the Confederations Cup in Russia.
Pedro Caixinha is making moves in the transfer market
Express Sport exclusively broke the story on May 6 that Cagliari defender Alves was Gers boss Pedro Caixinha’s top target.
Caixinha will follow that up with the capture of Ryan Jack, whose contract with Aberdeen expires this week.
He could be joined by fellow midfielder Graham Dorrans, with Rangers in talks with Norwich over a transfer.
Benfica pair Dalcio and Daniel Candeias, Vitoria Setubal centre-half Fabio Cardoso and Moreirense left-back Pedro Rebocho are also in the frame.
Chivas midfielder Carlos Pena is another option, but doubts remain over whether he would meet the work permit criteria.
No bids have been made so far for Hearts pair Jamie Walker and Callum Paterson despite being targets for the Light Blues.
