The report named ISIS as Sweden's biggest threat in 2017

Following devastating terror attacks in Berlin and Istanbul in recent months, Swedish officials are concerned copycat attacks could be carried out as nations around Europe are put on red-alert.

ISIS are believed to be the main security threat to Sweden but there is an increased threat from individual radicalised Islamists who do not belong to terror cults, the report carried out by Nationellt Centrum För Terrorhotbedömning (NCT) has claimed.

The NCT, a group which includes members of Sweden’s security police, believed the attacks could be inspired by previous terror attacks rather than orchestrated from evil extremists who lead the death cults.

Mats Sandberg, the head of NCT, said: “The biggest risk we’re seeing is the individual player, who has been inspired and perhaps radicalised, almost on their own.

“In our view, that risk is greater than a major coordinated attack with several actors similar to Paris for example.”

Between 2006 and 2013, terrorism caused around 130,000 fatalities worldwide.

Despite a huge increase in the number of migrants arriving in Sweden in recent months, the report emphasises that homegrown terrorists represent the main threat to safety in Sweden.

The majority of attacks carried out in the Scandinavian country last year were perpetrated by nationals.

Sandberg added: “What we’re seeing when it comes to the Western world, is that most of the planned and executed attacks are carried out by people who have not been to a conflict zone.”

The national terrorist threat in Sweden currently stands at three in a 1-5 scale, otherwise known as ‘elevated’.

The news comes after leading Swedish politician Magnus Olsson called for soldiers to be sent to the city of Malmo to reestablish law and order as violent thugs have turned the city into a ‘no-go zone’.

He said: “There is a great lack of police officers in Sweden and Malmö. For this reason, it is perhaps time to let the military and police to stand together to reestablish order in the country.

“In times of crisis the military can help keep law and order and assist the police with logistics services, materials, vehicles, and more.”

Crime rates have surged in Sweden’s largest city in recent months with the city facing increasing violence, including shootouts, grenade attacks and murders.
