Grace Kelly used to fondly refer to young Stephanie as her “enfant terrible” because she was such a spirited girl.
The Hollywood actress described her daughters, Stephanie and Caroline, as “warm, bright, amusing, intelligent and capable girls”.
“Besides being good students, they are good athletes – excellent skiers and swimmers,” she told People Magazine in April 1982.
“Both can cook and sew and play the piano and ride a horse. But, above all, my children are good sports, conscious of their position and considerate of others.”

Later the same year, tragedy struck when Stephanie and her mother were driving back to Monte Carlo from their country home in France.
Grace Kelly suffered a stroke and lost control of the car on a winding mountain road. The car crash claimed Grace Kelly’s life but Stephanie survived.
Two decades later, Stephanie said she was still traumatised by "losing my mother at a very young age, and being at her side at the moment of the accident".
"You cannot imagine the suffering I have endured, and that I endure still,” she told the magazine Paris Match.
After her physical recovery from the accident, Stephanie became an apprentice at Christian Dior. She later appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair as well as French and German Vogue.
She went on to launch a range of swimwear and a fragrance as well as releasing a single, in English and French, and then an album.
The royal recorded another album in Los Angeles but later gave up her career in music in order to focus on charity work and a foundation named after Grace Kelly.
Stephanie’s turbulent love life has often made the headlines in gossip magazines over the years. She was once linked to celebrities like Paul Belmondo, Anthony Delon and Rob Lowe.
The royal went on to marry her bodyguard Daniel Ducruet and had two children with him before their divorce in 1996.
Two years later, she had another daughter but has never revealed the identity of the father.
