The Everton forward spent three years in west London but failed to make an impression, making just 10 league appearances.
He spent time on loan with West Brom and Everton before sealing a permanent switch to the the Toffees in 2014.
Lukaku has been one of the standout performers for the Merseyside outfit of late and has shown he is more than capable of cutting it in England’s top flight.
The Belgian, who currently leads the Premier League’s goalscoring charts on 16 goals, has attracted interest from the Blues.

Romelu Lukaku has netted 16 league goals for Everton this season
If I was him I’d actually get in my car and phone the manager on the way down to London! I’m off. – I wouldn’t even lock the door.
Ian Wright
Chelsea eyed a move for Lukaku in the summer but Everton were reluctant to let their star man leave.
However, if the opportunity comes up again at the end of the season, former Arsenal striker Wright believes Lukaku should pack his bags and return to Stamford Bridge.
Wright told The Sun: “If I was him I’d actually get in my car and phone the manager on the way down to London! I’m off – I wouldn’t even lock the door.
“This is going to rumble on and if he has to make that decision, he’ll probably leave.”

Antonio Conte tried to sign Romelu Lukaku last summer
Everton will no doubt fight to keep hold of the 23-year-old again when the transfer window opens with Lukaku under contract until 2019.
And Wright reckons Ronald Koeman’s side could still convince him to stay if Everton continue to progress on the pitch and grow financially away from the field.
“As soon as they can quell that talk, he’s settled and everyone else will be settled,” he added.
“There are massive things happening at Everton with the new ownership and money coming in so it’s a very exciting place to be right now.”
