The next Pokemon Go update could help boost the game to even greater profits
While Niantic’s plans for 2017 are being slowly revealed, fans are just learning how big Pokemon Go updates may be worth this year.
Keeping fans playing will be the aim of the game for developers over the next 12 months as they try to contend with the impressive revenue created last year.
Tracking site App Annie has now revealed that Pokemon Go ended 2016 as the most downloaded app and managing to generate a whopping $950 million in revenue.
The incredible sums are made even more impressive when you remember that Pokemon Go came out nearly halfway through the year.
Ultimately, Pokemon Go was not the most profitable, Clash Royale and Monster Strike beat it to the crown, although both those titles came out months before.
And with the news that Pokemon Go helped app store sales top £20bn, musicMagpie has number crunched the revenue it makes per minute in the UK.

Pokemon Go looks set to introduce new moves like Fire Spin
Along with some other popular apps, it appears that Pokemon Go makes £101.07 per min in the UK, while Clash of Clans makes £91.52 per min, Candy Crush Saga makes £82.60 per min and Game of War – Fire Age makes £69.09 per minute.
It follows the new Pokemon Go update that has shed more light on the Gen 2 release date.
Pokemon Go's new update contains evidence of Gen 2 Pokemon, which has come as great news for fans.
The latest Pokemon Go update was ripped apart by data miners, who uncovered nearly 40 new moves, which surely points to the release of Gen 2 Pokemon.
The last time Niantic introduced new moves, Pokemon Go fans were treated to the release of Ditto, which was quickly followed by the first Gen 2 Pokemon.
The secrets were uncovered by Pokemon Go fans over on The Silph Road, alongside potential new features like Evolution items and shiny Pokemon.
You can check out the secrets for yourself by looking through the gallery below:
The introduction of new moves should make up for the new distance tracking changes, which will potentially make it harder to hatch eggs.
Pokemon Go currently tracks distance travelled through GPS. This means that players sometimes rack up a few additional steps, even when they're standing still.
Pokemon Go update v0.53.1 also makes text fixes, and updates the Apple watch to display Eggs obtained from PokeStops.
Fans had expected the Pokemon Go update to land this week, especially after last week's nest migration.
