Pokemon Go has a new rival in its midst, as Pokemon Duel has been given a surprising release on iPhone and Android.
But what exactly is Pokemon Duel, how do you play it and how do you download it?
Known as Pokemon Co-Master in Japan, the free-to-play game should keep fans busy while they wait for the Gen 2 release date.
Described as a strategy board game, players use virtual Pokemon figures to build a deck and go head-to-head with rivals.
"Pokemon Duel is a strategy board game that uses virtual Pokemon figures," reads the description.
"Build a deck with your favourite figures and then leap into a League Match! Compete with players from around the world for a chance to enter the top League rankings in League Matches.
"You’ll fight your rivals in real time! Win duels, get all kinds of cool figures and items, and make your deck stronger!"

You can download Pokemon Duel by visiting the iOS App Store for iPhone and iPad.
Android users can download Pokemon Go for free by visiting the Google Play Store.
If you're not sure how to play, Pokemon Company has broken down the different steps required to best the world of Pokemon Duel.
- By strategically assembling their team of six Pokémon, each with its own strengths and a set number of steps it can take, players can take different routes to rush toward the goal or block the opponent’s Pokémon from advancing.
- When two Pokémon from opposing teams meet, a battle commences, and the players spin each Pokémon’s Data Disk to see which Attack each Pokémon will use.
- In addition to moving Pokémon and battling, players will also be able to use a plate at the start of their turn. These plates have various effects, including swapping positions of Pokémon in play and giving their Pokémon various battle enhancements for that turn.
- The player who reaches their goal first wins the duel.
Pokemon Go developer Niantic is planning to release a major new Gen 2 update very soon, according to new reports.
Fans discovered lots of big new features as part of the latest update, including Evolutionary Stones, Shiny Pokemon and Pocket Monster form variations.
But it was the discovery of nearly 40 Gen 2 Pokemon moves that has made fans most excited.
And according to the experts at Trainer Tips, the Pokemon Go update launch might much sooner than you think.
"Users on both Android and iOS are being forced to update to the latest versions,” a recent Trainer Tips video explains.
"When Niantic forces users to update, it's because they’re about to roll something out that requires you to have code and assets that are in the most recent update files.
"So that means something very big, is coming very soon. It could be Shiny Pokemon, Pokemon Genders, it could be Gen 2 Pokemon. We’ll find out soon enough."

As fans wait for the release of Gen 2 Pokemon and Legendaries, new reports have suggested that Niantic is planning a special event for April Fools' Day.
According to Slashgear, the new event would see a ton of Magikarp added to the wild.
"The reasons for release on each of the events for Pokemon GO add up to some interesting conclusions. For April Fools' Day, one should look to Pokemon Medals to see what Niantic has up its sleeve," the post reads.
"The Pikachu medal became a LOT easier to attain over the past several weeks of December 2016 when Santa Hat Pikachu was made fairly common."
The Fisherman medal, on the other hand, is extremely difficult to obtain, and would take some players years to get.
It makes sense, therefore, that Niantic would give players a helping hand by making Magikarp more plentiful.
Magikarp are considered fairly useless in the world of Pokemon and are often used as a figure of fun. An abundance of Magikarp would also fit the April Fools' Day theme.
