Betty Shimeld celebrated her 106th birthday and says the secret behind her old age is whiskey
Betty Shimeld celebrated her latest milestone with a tumbler of whisky – which has been keeping her in good health since her teenage years.
She got her first taste for the spirit when she moved to France at the end of the Second World War when water was considered hazardous.
Ms Shimeld, of Mansfield, Notts, said: “I know people are always being warned about drinking too much, but a moderate glass every once in a while is definitely good for you.
