John Lundstram has recalled the moment Rafa Benitez made him cry
The midfielder was just 11 when he watched his beloved Liverpool, managed by Benitez, in the 2005 Champions League final.
Lundstram admits he was crying his eyes out at half-time with his boyhood team 3-0 down to AC Milan before they famously turned things around to leave him with one of the best memories of his life.

Now the 22-year-old will go face-to-face with his boyhood hero as his League One side look for an upset against Newcastle.
“As a Liverpool supporter it will be a weird one going into the referee’s meeting with him before the game,” said Lundstram.
“I remember watching the Champions League final and crying my heart out in the first half before they turned it around.

“I was at my mum’s friend’s house. I will never forget it. I was obviously ecstatic at the end after crying when we were 3-0 down.
“Obviously I’d like to win something myself but it was a good memory. It will be a dream to be captain against Newcastle and shake Rafa’s hand before. But I won’t say anything different to what I would normally. I will just shake his hand and say, ‘Good luck’. I’ve never been starstruck before so I don’t think I’ll be starstruck now.”
