Overwatch Season 5 kicks off later this week
Overwatch Season 4 has now ended but that doesn’t mean fans will be waiting long for more Competitive Play.
Changing up how they have done things in the past, Blizzard revealed earlier this month that they wanted to reduce the wait time, based on fan feedback.
Overwatch Season 5 begins on June 1, 1am UK time, although there could be some fluctuation of that date depending on what time zone you reside in.
- May 31, 5pm PDT
- May 31, 8pm EDT
- June 1, 2am CEST
And according to the latest reports, the rewards for a top 500 spot this season are Numbani themed, meaning a special Hero Animated Spray and Competitor Player Icon.
For players who completed Season 4's placement matches, there should be a unique spray and player icon waiting for you. And for those that pushed their skill rating to the max, more points for gold skins will be on the cards too.
The Competitive Points are as follows:
- SR 1-1499 (Bronze): 100 CP
- SR 1500-1999 (Silver): 200 CP
- SR 2000-2499 (Gold): 400 CP
- SR 2500-2999 (Platinum): 800 CP
- SR 3000-3499 (Diamond): 1200 CP
- SR 3500-3999 (Master): 2000 CP
- SR 4000-5000 (Grandmaster): 3000 CP

The new Overwatch Anniversary event has begun
Overwatch Season 5 should last around the same amount of time, with another 90-day period on the cards.
However, it should also be noted that Blizzard have yet to officially lay out all their plans for Season 5, so there could be a few changes being cooked up by the development.
It was recently revealed that Mercy was one of the most popular mains during Overwatch Season 4 on console.

According to Omnic Meta, the healer was made a big splash on both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
“The first piece of data that pops out is the popularity of Mercy one tricks at Master and Grandmaster tiers, making up 60% and 57% of all one trick heroes respectively.
“Between tiers Platinum – Grandmaster, no other hero has nearly the same amount of one-trick popularity as Mercy. Considering that 10% of all players on Console meet the 80% one trick criteria, a shocking 1 in 17 players to 1 in 35 players are mercy one tricks.

“Other popular heroes, such as D.Va, Soldier, Lucio, and Reinhardt only attain a 10% to 13% share of one-trick popularity, depending on the tier.”
Mercy also recently escaped the latest list of buffed and nerfed heroes, but if any kind of overbearing advantage is found through using Mercy, Blizzard may attempt some changes during Season 5.
While fans will have to wait until early on Thursday to rejoin Competitive Play, fans can still enjoy the new 3v3 Elimination arenas added as part of the anniversary event.
Game director Jeff Kaplan was recently asked if this version of Overwatch gameplay could have its own CP mode in the future.
Kaplan replied: “We will consider creating a competitive version.
“I think it's still a little early to tell if the mode is stable and balanced enough to host a competitive version. We're keeping a really close eye on it and playing it ourselves.”
