Orange Is The New Black season 5 release date confirmed – When does it start?

Jenji Kohan’s critically-acclaimed show will be dropping on Netflix in the summer, specifically June 9.

But that was not all, fans also got a sneak peek at the new season after Netflix released a teaser trailer.

In the 14-second clip all of the characters are seen exchanging glances with one another as they prepare to face off.

The footage is consistent with reports that season five will see things in Lichfield Penitentiary turned upside-down as the prisoners riot.

On top of that, it was reported that season five will be set over several days during the riot and pick up straight after the events of the previous run.

Season four came to a stonking close with a cliffhanger that saw the beloved Poussey (played by Samira Wiley) accidentally killed by white prison guard Bayley (Alan Aisenberg) during the middle of a protest.

The death led to the prisoners seeking revenge as mutiny was afoot in the state institution and Taystee (Danielle Brooks) started a riot.

She was not the only one kicking up a fuss as Daya (Dascha Polanco) was infuriated by the new prison guards and took matters into her own hands quite literally as she stole a gun and took aim at one of the guards.

Orange Is The New Black actress Danielle, 27, recently spoke about the forthcoming season, saying simply: “It’s war.”

"It will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready," she told The Hollywood Reporter.

Danielle went on to tease: "Get your popcorn, your tissues."

Luckily, for fans of the Netflix dramedy, there will be plenty more Orange Is The New Black after it was recommissioned by the video-on-demand service for seasons six, seven and eight.
