US President Donald Trump vowed yesterday “Obamacare will explode… do not worry”
The President lost his first major legislative showdown after he was forced to pull his new healthcare bill before a doomed vote in Congress.
The repeal of the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, had been one of the President’s main campaign pledges.
The blow followed a week of mounting pressure for the administration after FBI claims that his associates may have communicated with suspected Russian operatives to co-ordinate the release of hacked data damaging to Hillary Clinton’s election campaign.
President Trump’s draft American Health Care Act, aimed at reducing the US deficit by £270billion between 2017 and 2026, would have allowed insurers to raise premiums for the elderly and no longer include “essential benefits” such as maternity care, mental health and emergency treatment.

Some Republicans were concerned it would leave 24 million more Americans without health insurance in 2024, while others said it didn’t go far enough in giving health insurers free reign.
ObamaCare will explode and we will all get together and piece together a great healthcare plan
Trump personally ordered the bill to be pulled rather than face defeat, after it became clear it would not get the minimum of 215 Republican votes needed to carry it through, despite a Republican majority in Congress.
Referring to “victorious Democrats” senior Republican Mark Walker said: “Probably that champagne that wasn’t popped back in November may be utilised this evening.”

The FBI will examine claims that Mr Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, worked secretly for Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska to advance Russian interests.
Richard Ledgett, the deputy director of the National Security Agency, said proof Russia hacked the Democratic National Committee and leaked data to sway the election outcome was “irrefutable”.
