The Nokia 6 has proved a big hit, so will we see it in the UK soon?

Nokia has enjoyed a stunning return to the smartphone market, according to new figures which claim the company’s latest handset sold out in record time.

The Nokia 6, which was announced earlier this month, sold out all its initial stock in just a minute.

The device was the first smartphone launched under the iconic Nokia brand for nearly a year after it terminated its agreement with Microsoft.

That’s according to sources from China, which as it stands is the only country where you can currently buy the device.

Nokia will also be boosted by the news that over a million people have reportedly already registered their interest in buying the phone on JD.com, the online Chinese retailer that has exclusive rights for the device.

The Nokia 6 is currently available for 1699 Yuan (around £200), putting it far below the price of other flagship devices on the market.

So far, only Chinese customers have been able to enjoy the Nokia 6

The initial success of the Nokia 6 in China may now prompt the company to expand its sale to other markets around the world.

So far, Nokia has not given any indication of when customers in the UK or other parts of the world will be able to get their hands on the device.

HMD Global, the company behind Nokia’s handset production, says it is instead hoping to strike a blow into the potentially lucrative Chinese device market, where there are currently over 500 million potential customers.

The phone comes with a 5.5in FullHD Gorilla Glass 2.5D display, and an all-metal body that looks rather smooth and stylish.

It will also come running Android Nougat, putting Nokia ahead of many other competitors in getting Google’s latest software into its top devices.

Inside, however, the hardware appears a little lacking when compared to some of the other flagship devices on the market today, with the Nokia 6 packing a Snapdragon 430 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage.

There’s better news for camera fans, however, with the Nokia 6 coming with an 16MP rear camera and 8MP front lens.

Alongside the Nokia 6, the company has also confirmed that it is working on several new smartphones powered by Google's Android software.

Other devices are likely to be revealed that the Mobile World Congress show next month, with Nokia also set to announce an expansion of its virtual reality products, as well as the launch of a 'Digital Health' product, most likely a wearable device, and an expansion in its mobile and smart car patents.

Earlier this month, a patent filing revealed that Nokia is also working on a handset that is able to fold in half.

Diagrams showing the device show a ‘clamshell’ hinged design much like a make-up mirror, opening up to reveal a screen that bends in half when closed.
