A big Nintendo Switch games release could be on the cards from Square Enix
Nintendo Switch fans are having to make do with getting their new titles direct from the eShop, to help provide new games to play.
While there have been a few notable releases since launch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and World of Goo remain some of the best available on the console.
In a recent interview the company president Yosuke Matsuda revealed the extent of their plans, confirming they were more interested in the Switch, than Microsoft’s Xbox Scorpio.
Through a new translation of the discussion with Trendy, Matsuda revealed that having as many platforms as possible to develop for was a big boost for a company like Square Enix and was something they wanted to achieve with the Nintendo Switch.
The president also spoke more on the subject of what could be announced for the Nintendo Switch, revealing that ports of older titles were certainly a possibility.
“We’re even thinking about what feasible existing game titles we want to successively port [onto the Switch],” he said.

The first game that comes to mind is the Ps4 and Xbox One hit, Final Fantasy 15. While probably a stretch given the Nintendo Switch’s limited processing power, a port of that game would certainly prove popular.
And while there’s nothing to suggest that a Final Fantasy XV port is in the works, it does certainly fit in with Square Enix emerging strategy.
Matsuda spoke more on this during the interview, hoping to extend the life of certain titles through updates and DLCs, and allowing them to continue selling for longer periods of time.

With a team already in place doing this for both Xbox One and PS4, would it be a stretch to add the Nintendo Switch to that list?
In all likelihood, Square Enix will probably look toward the less expensive options currently on the table.
The likes of Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9, as well as the older titles in the much beloved series, seem a far more likely prospect for porting, as of right now.

If you've finished Zelda: Breath of the Wild and are looking for a new action game to keep you busy, then you'll be pleased to hear that the LEGO City Undercover release date is set for April 7.
Originally released on the Wii U, LEGO City Undercover has been given a new lease of life, as it launches on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4.
Almost like a child-friendly version of GTA, it takes place in the open-world LEGO City, which features 20 districts to explore.
It all revolves around undercover cop Chase McCain and his recently escaped master criminal Rex Fury.
LEGO City Undercover also features over 100 vehicles, lots of different disguises and missions as diverse as capturing aliens and rescuing pigs.
It's a big boost to the rather lean Nintendo Switch games list.
